There are many ways to engage in the legislative process
On this page you will find information about ways to engage through PTA

Submit a proposal for an issue to be placed on the WSPTA Legislative Platform

The WSPTA offers members an opportunity to have a voice in and form the WSPTA Legislative Platform.  Every two years, Washington State PTA votes in a Top 5 and designates other issues that it considers timely. The association has numerous positions that support the well-being and education of all children and this process helps us focus our advocacy.  In the off years, adjustments can be made to the two-year platform, but the Top 5 stay in place.

Members can submit issues that are then vetted by a committee and if chosen are put forward to the membership at the annual WSPTA Legislative Assembly.  Below is additional information and forms if you are interested in submitted a proposal.

Letter from WSPTA about
Legislative Platform for 2016

Picture

Greetings WSPTA Members,
The issue submission process for our 2016 Legislative Platform is now open!

The key dates you need to be aware of are:
Wednesday, May 1 -  title and short description due; and
Wednesday, June 1 - complete issue submittal form due.

In addition to the issue submittal form, this year we are instituting a required Code of Conduct for issue submitters and their teams. The goal is to ensure that anyone submitting an issue will lead or co-lead a team to support and advance it throughout the two-year platform cycle. To that end, this Code of Conduct, which is modeled after the one required for WSPTA Board Members, will ensure that everyone participating in the issue process and serving as leaders for their issues, abides by a reasonable standard of conduct.

We are always open to your feedback and participation; please feel free to contact your Legislative Director, Duncan Taylor with any ideas, questions, or concerns: PTALegDir@wastatepta.org, or 317-WAST-PTA. For forms and resources, visit the WSPTA Advocacy page and the Members Only Advocacy page. Attached you will find the proper forms to be used with your submission.

Thank you for being part of this process, and we look forward to seeing your issues come through!
