What does Council do for the local units and members in Bellevue? There are three major programs that Council provides to our local units and members. Since we represent all PTA's in Bellevue, we are able to do those things that involve us all.
1. Bellevue Gifted Alliance
Bellevue Gifted Alliance is a program of the Bellevue PTSA Council. Through outreach and education, this group of volunteers provides tools to advocate for gifted students in Bellevue. They aim to improve gifted education in the Bellevue School District and support students, educators, and parents in the gifted program.
2. Scholarships.
Council has awarded thousands in scholarships to graduating Bellevue seniors for many years. This year, we will award at least $12,000 to outstanding students. The Mike Riley Memorial Scholarship (formerly the Bellevue PTSA Council Scholarship) is funded by all of our local units, and is awarded based on academic achievement and leadership. The Alice Hurd Memorial Scholarship awards those students who show exemplary service to their community. It is funded by a trust established by the Alice Hurd family, in honor of their wife and mother who provided endless hours of volunteer time to PTA and to the senior community in Bellevue.
3. Reflections
Council is where the winners of the local unit Reflection competitions go. We hold our own competition, including judges and displays, and decide who moves on to the state competition. This is a huge endeavor, and anyone interested in encouraging the arts in schools should get involved at their school, and at Council, in Reflections.
4. Parent Education
This is a new venture for Council. Many of our local units have been offering programs for their parents and community for years. What we didn't have was a place to publicize those events, or to work together in partnerships. We are now working at establishing a place for our schools to post their events, and to help them with get the word out.
