Each elected board member is required to complete one training class prior to the WA State PTA's Annual Convention (May 21-23, 2021) and that every PTA is required to have at least one board member take PTA & the Law each year. All Washington State PTA trainings and events are for PTA officers, board members, committee chairs, and interested members only.
Why the emphasis on training?
As board members, it is our fiduciary responsibility to manage the corporation in the best interest of its members as a whole. To run programs and handle budgets responsibly, knowledge of the applicable state and federal regulations is key to operate your non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable corporation. Training is what helps to build trust and give your PTA credibility. A well-trained and informed board is also a great selling point to encourage others to join your PTA and step up to a leadership role.
Visit Washington State PTA website for additional leadership guides and governance resources for managing a successful PTA, such as bylaws, policy, and Standards of Affiliation. Links to webinar recordings, short videos and eLearnings can be found on the Washington State PTA's Training page.
